Being able to produce the sounds in English is a good place to start.
A great method for this is to:
1. Learn how to produce a sound
2. Get feedback and make changes
3. Get long-term repetition
The examples I gave were the /f/ and /v/ sounds. They sound similar and you do the same thing to produce them but the /f/ is unvoiced and the /v/ is voiced.
